Director of Real Estate and Community Development
Benjamin also serves concurrently as Associate Director of the Williams College Center for Creative Development (C3D), located on the MASS MoCA campus. At MASS MoCA, he directs all commercial real estate development and leasing for 125,000 square feet of income-producing space, which generates a quarter of the museum's annual operating budget. He also oversees MASS MoCA's leadership and participation in other community development strategies including chairing an" asset development" program for Berkshire County residents focused on small business education and home ownership assistance, leading the planning process for a matched savings account program for artists in Berkshire County, serving on the entrepreneurship workgroup of the Berkshire Blueprint economic development plan, serving on the small business committee of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, and serving as Vice President of the Board of the Northern Berkshire United Way. At C3D, he conducts economic and social impact evaluation with cultural organizations across the country.
Prior to his current responsibilities, he served for five years as Director of Development for MASS MoCA, leading a development team that raised over $2 million per year in contributed income, with responsibility for economic impact evaluation, case-making and strategic planning facilitation in addition to fund development. Previously, he worked as Director of Marketing, Development and Community Relations for the Flatbush Development Corporation, a nonprofit community development corporation in Brooklyn, and he served as a Peace Corps volunteer supporting agricultural and craft-based microenterprise development in the Ivory Coast.
