On Friday, December 16, 2012, the MCLA Sustainability Committee,
Facilities Department, and Computer Support Services hosted a electronics
recycling pick up by Good Point Recycling from Middlebury, Vermont. Good Point picked up almost four tons of
electronic waste including about computers, old-style monitors,
televisions, printers, printer cartridges, DVD players, microwaves, and other assorted items. The material included both college and community
contributions. Thanks to MCLA facilities staff, students, and faculty who
loaded up the truck! For more information check out the web story.
The Sustainability Committee uses Good Point Recycling (www.retroworks.net) because this Middlebury, Vermont\-based company has a national reputation for socially and environmentally responsible electronic waste recycling with an expertise in "fair trade." The toxic material in these electronics will be removed and reused safely. How we dispose of our electronics is a campus sustainability issue because electronics are frequently disposed of irresponsibly overseas.
If you miss this electronics collection, remember that you can bring almost any electronics to Best Buy for no charge. The even includes televisions as long at they are 32 inch or smaller.
