This years events:
There will be a STEM Family Program on Saturday June 5th from 10a.m. to 2p.m. Bring your family and meet up with some working scientists. Or better yet grab some collecting equipment and do some real scientific collecting. Or relax and take a guided nature walk where you are sure to meet some fascinating animals, plants, and fungi!
A "BioBlitz" is an action-packed day designed as part contest, part festival, part educational program, and part scientific endeavor. It brings together scientists, students, teachers, and the community in a race against time to see how many species they can count in a 24-hour biological survey of a given area.
The very first BioBlitz took place in 1998 in Walden Woods, Massachusetts. Its success inspired similar events in a dozen European countries and many US states. In Massachusetts alone, the State Executive Office of Environmental Affairs has sponsored BioBlitzes in over 300 Massachusetts towns.

BioBlitz World Music Drum and Song Campfire Jam

Firefly Watch
Fri June 4 8PM-9:30PM
Spotting fireflies is a special part of any summer night, because we so rarely see them. Are fireflies disappearing from our landscape? If so, why? Help scientists answer these questions by becoming a Firefly Watch citizen scientist. Come learn about this exciting project from biologist Scott LaGreca (Natural Science Coordinator at the Berkshire Museum), and get ready to report on the evening's first flashes!
Wings That Go Bump in the Night
Fri June 4 9PM-10:30PM
Hear that tapping at your window during a warm summer's evening? Do you wonder who (or what) wants in? Get an up-close and personal view of moths and other night-flying insects as they are drawn to a lighted sheet. Mark Mello (Research Director for the Lloyd Center for the Environment) will sort out the species and provide hints on identification.
Owl Prowl
Fri June 4 9PM-10:30PM
Are you a "night owl"? Did you know that most owls can be identified by using only their calls? Join naturalist Rene Wendell (Conservation Ranger at Bartholomew's Cobble, TTOR) "on the prowl" and search the forest for nocturnal animals, with a special focus on owls.
