Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), located in the beautiful Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts, is a small, public, residential, liberal arts college which offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Previously a comprehensive state college known as North Adams State, Massachusetts College adopted a more focused liberal arts and sciences mission in 1992, was designated the public liberal arts college of Massachusetts in 1993 and was awarded its new name by the Legislature and Governor in 1997.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY/Education Department:  Applications are being accepted for a specialist in instructional technology, commencing fall 2008; continuation of position is dependent upon funding.  Duties include designing professional development workshops in instructional technology for area schools, including one-to-one laptop districts; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Instructional Technology; assisting Education Department faculty in the development of online courses; working closely in the schools with local teachers and administrators on curriculum projects related to technology; and participating in revising and developing curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Assistant Professor of Visual Art, Tenure-Track.  Studio art generalist to teach undergraduate courses, especially drawing and graphic design, as well as upper-level art classes in support of a growing art program.  A proven record of teaching at the college level beyond graduate assistantships, an MFA or Ph.D., and strong exhibit record required.  Dynamic technical proficiency in art-making, teaching and curatorial experience helpful to connect students with a thriving creative economy that includes all levels of the arts from street fairs to world-class museums nestled within the Berkshires.  Workload is four courses per semester, student advising, college committee work, departmental responsibilities (student art exhibits, lecture series) and ongoing artistic creation.  To apply, submit cover letter, c.v., a brief teaching philosophy, 20 samples of your artwork in digital files (no slides, .jpg or PowerPoint only), three hard copy photos or digital prints of artwork, plus 20 examples of works by your students, 3-5 references.

STAFF ASSISTANT, ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR/Admissions:  Working under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions, and working closely with the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services/Director of Admissions and Student Records, the Staff Assistant, Admissions Counselor will support all aspects of the admissions and recruitment efforts of the College, including the planning, organization and administration of the admissions program at the College.  Bachelor’s degree required; valid driver’s license required, as well as strong oral, written and organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks; and the ability to work effectively with others to meet institutional enrollment goals.  The ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts college experience is essential.  Must be energetic, enthusiastic, flexible and enjoy traveling within driving distance of the College.  Starting July 1, 2008.  Review of applications will commence on May 19, 2008 and continue until the position is filled.

STAFF ASSISTANT, COORDINATOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT/Learning Services:  Responsible for enhancing the collection, review and dissemination of information about student academic needs and learning and physical abilities with a special focus on issues related to students with disabilities; first generation and low income college students; collecting and disseminating student information with campus personnel and appropriate external agents; reviewing self-identifying L.D. student admission folders and identifying needs of students for accommodations and support services to and coordinating these accommodations with appropriate college departments; providing primary coordination to tutorial and Writing and Research Center support services; recruiting, training and supervising Writing Associates for the Writing and Research Center and a corps of peer tutors to provide small group and individualized tutorials for enrolled students, including consultation with faculty to identify qualified peer tutors and Writing Associates, and to identify particular learning needs of students.  The position’s goal is an increased understanding of the student’s academic needs by college personnel; i.e., instructors and counselors.  Master’s degree required in related field, as well as certification in special needs; minimum of three years experience with disabled learners in an educational setting; familiarity with qualifications for enrollment in MA public four-year colleges; experience with administration of diagnostic assessments; evidence of skills in documentation; good organizational skills; and excellent written and verbal expression.  Starting:  May 26, 2008.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

STAFF ASSOCIATE, CONFERENCE COORDINATOR/Advancement Office:  Responsible for the management of campus events that are supported by the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts President’s Office and the Office of Advancement.  This position is also responsible for developing and managing a plan to promote MCLA facilities usage to external groups for conferences and other special purpose events.  The Conference Coordinator will organize and execute all details in support of specific College functions including, but not limited to, support of Commencement, Patrons of the Arts, Hardman Lecture Series, Public Policy Planning Group, and other campus conference activities, in collaboration with senior management team and their staff.  Bachelor’s degree required, with minimum five years experience working in events management for a non-profit setting, preferably Higher Education.  Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and knowledge of database systems, preferably Raiser’s Edge.  Demonstrated leadership, management and negotiation skills.  Requires excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.  Ability to work weekend and evening events in support of events and conference coordination.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

STAFF ASSISTANT, RESIDENCE DIRECTOR (2 POSITIONS)/Residential Programs & Services: Supervision of 6 – 8 Resident Advisors, supervision of a desk staff; the creation of developmental activities; personal and behavioral counseling and the coordination of staff development activities.  Residence Directors are also responsible for chairing a departmental committee; coordinating special projects and representing the department on a variety of campus committees.  Position is full-time and live-in.  Remuneration includes a salary range of $28,000-$31,000 per annum, a rent-free apartment, partial meal plan, parking, telecommunications package (local phone service, cable TV and computer connectivity), professional development funding and a comprehensive benefit package. ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR ASSESSMENT, PLANNING & RESEARCH/Assessment & Planning:  Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean will oversee and guide college assessment, planning and research to support the growth of academic programs, as well as academic and student support services; assist in the creation of a Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), a professional development support center for faculty; serve on and support the Institutional Review Board (IRB); and assist in the creation of a Center for Teaching and Learning which will enhance the culture of teaching and learning.  Master’s degree required with earned Doctorate preferred and relevant experience in higher education; a minimum of three years experience in higher education institutional assessment, planning, survey design, administration and analysis; excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, as well as experience in collecting, analyzing and publishing data; familiarity with federal reporting requirements; and ability to work cooperatively with others.  MCLA uses Banner and Web Focus to track and report student data.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

RE-POSTING - STAFF ASSISTANT, HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER/Athletics:   Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, located in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, one of the nation’s premier cultural resort areas, Department of Athletics, is accepting applications for the full-time, 10-month position of Head Athletic Trainer. The Head Trainer’s responsible for the planning, organization, direction and execution of programs associated with the care and prevention of athletic injuries, including supervision and collaboration with a team of health care professionals and students from the Athletic Training Academic Program, maintenance of supplies and equipment, and preparation of the budget.  The Head Athletic Trainer works under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics and the Dean of Students.  Bachelor’s Degree required as well as N.A.T.A.
