"What prepared me at MCLA for my internship at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and graduate school was the rigor of my physics classes. I would credit Dr. Adrienne Wootters in particular with teaching us to work hard and she was always willing to make time to work on problems with us when we couldn’t get them."

Convocation

Convocation will take place in the Church Street Center on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 4:00 pm. The Convocation speaker will be Maria Chambers ’91. Chambers, a graduate of the College’s Class of 1991, is the director of MTV Networks Radio in New York City.

Convocation is an important tradition at MCLA. Convocation symbolizes the official beginning of your academic career at the college and your acceptance into the MCLA community of learners. It is a time when we gather together to welcome new students into our community; instill in students the value of their education, and the significance of being part of a community of learners, where knowledge and scholarship are valued.

As part of Convocation you will walk through the College gates. Keep in mind that the gates that you will pass through are opened only twice a year. You will pass through at Convocation and again at Graduation when you conclude your academic career at MCLA. Faculty, staff, administrators and College trustees in full academic regalia welcome you, and are there to show commitment to our new members of the MCLA community.

Convocation is a time to celebrate. We celebrate the excitement of a new academic year as we welcome you!
