MISSION

MCLA’s Berkshire Cultural Resource Center(BCRC) delivers cultural experiences that embrace a wide range of aesthetic and conceptual points of view to support a diverse and vibrant North Adams.

VISION

We are engaged in the way cultural experiences are presented, positioned and developed in our region. We advocate for, nurture, and facilitate a diverse, vibrant cultural community at MCLA and in the greater region. Our work bridges the campus and greater community and engages creatively and critically with a wide range of visual and performing arts experiences programed by BCRC in collaboration with community partners and students.

BCRC is a collaborative project of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, MASS MoCA, and the City of North Adams.

OUR PROGRAMS:

MCLA Gallery 51

Since 2005, MCLA Gallery 51 has anchored BCRC operations on Main Street. Exhibiting work from a wide range of emerging to mid-career contemporary artists to the greater Berkshire community. The gallery hosts ten exhibitions each year and countless events and happenings. Staffed by mostly student workers, MCLA Gallery 51 provides students with hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a gallery.

DownStreet Art

Each summer from late June till the end of September, DSA creates a wide program of visual and performing art events including exhibitions, video screenings and site-specific installations in downtown North Adams.

DownStreet Art exists to build economic and social capital and encourage the dialogue between our community and the arts. DownStreet Art does this by enlivening downtown North Adams using art and cultural activities to increase visitorship and enhance resident participation.
