MCLA Gallery 51
Sexpectations. Opening Reception. Curated by students in the Museum Studies class at MCLA.
This exhibit, Sexpectations, will explore the themes of how the media
and popular culture shapes, informs, misrepresents, manipulates, and
distorts gender roles in America today. In our society, media is
everywhere we turn and defines our gender on levels the average person
doesnít think about. The goal of this show is to raise awareness of the
mediaís influence on oneís self, and give the viewer a sense of
empowerment from this knowledge.
Annually, an exhibition is curated by students in the Museum Studies class as part of MCLA's Arts Management program. This year's exhibition is "Sexpectations." Students are involved in developing the exhibition theme, selecting the work, designing the exhibit space and installing the work, and developing related educational outreach programs such as workshops and performances.
