PART OF CHURCH ST. TO CLOSE DUE TO MCLA MOVE IN

09/01/16

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — With classes starting again next week, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has announced that a portion of Church Street between Bradley and Blackinton streets will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 4, to allow for safety as a large volume of students move into area residence halls.

Residents living within this closed off area will be allowed unrestricted access. All other traffic will be re-routed to Davenport Street and Blackinton Street during this time.

According to Dan Colonno, MCLA director of public safety, as part of the resident student check-in process, a large number of students will be moving into Berkshire Towers on Church Street and Hoosac Hall on Highland Avenue.

Letters to our “College Neighbors” recently were distributed to those who will be affected by the street closure. Residents who need to travel through the area on Sunday should present their letter to the officers posted near Blackinton or Bradley streets and they will be allowed to pass through.

Resident student check-in will begin on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 4. Although the partial street closure only will be in effect on Sunday, the student move-in process will continue through Tuesday, Sept. 6.

MCLA thanks affected residents in advance for their cooperation in helping us make the student move-in process a smooth and safe event. Those with any questions or concerns should contact Sgt. Peter Urbanowicz at (413) 662-5284.
