MCLA TO PRESENT TALK ON REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT IN WESTERN MASS

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces that Kathryn Buckly-Brawner, executive director of the Catholic Charities Agency in Springfield, will speak on “Refugee Resettlement in Western Massachusetts” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, in Murdock Hall room 218, on the MCLA campus.

This event is free and open to the public.

Buckley-Brawner and Catholic Charities have been at the forefront of efforts to resettle Syrian and other refugees in Western Massachusetts. The organization plans to facilitate the resettlement of as many as 51 Syrian refugees into Northampton over the course of the next several months.

Also speaking at this event will be Buckley-Brawner’s colleague, Jowel Iranzi, a former refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He, along with Buckley-Brawner, will speak to the MCLA community about refugee resettlement in Massachusetts and more broadly.

“Refugee Resettlement in Western Massachusetts” is sponsored MCLA’s Office of Academic Affairs, and the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work.
