MCLA TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR GRANT COLLABORATION WITH NA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, BERKSHIRE COMPACT FOR EDUCATION

WHAT:  MCLA will announce the details of its “Professional Development in Arts Education” grant – a collaborative effort with North Adams Public Schools, MCLA’s arts management program and the Berkshire Compact. This grant recently was approved for nearly $740,000 by the United States Department of Education. Out of 70 grants, it was one of 20 national projects to be funded.

WHO:  MCLA President James F. Birge, North Adams Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Malkas, Ed.D, North Adams Public Schools Curriculm Director Kim Roberts-Morandi, Ed.D, Dr. Lisa Donovan, professor of Fine & Performing Arts at MCLA, and Howard “Jake” Eberwein III, Ed.D, Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education at MCLA, will be among those in attendance.
 
The grant funding, to be distributed over four years, will support arts-integrated, professional development for Berkshire County educators, and partner them with cultural institutions and arts educators in schools.
 
The North Adams Public Schools, in collaboration with the Berkshire Compact, will lead this effort across four school districts. Sixty-six percent of the North Adams Public School student body of pre-K to grade 12 consists of youth who are part of economically disadvantaged families, as defined by the poverty criteria in Title I, Section 1113 (a) of the ESEA.
