STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

The STEM Academy is a new five-day program starting Aug. 4-8, 2013 that will introduce incoming freshmen to careers in STEM areas, build connections to other STEM students, faculty, and staff. Our primary goal is to provide students with a foundation as they start their academic career at MCLA, and assist them on their way to earning undergraduate degrees in STEM areas.

Additional program goals include:

  •  Enhance college readiness especially in mathematics

  •  Familiarize students with campus life

  •  Gain knowledge on STEM-related careers

  •  Learn skills to prepare for college success

The Academy will be accepting 20 incoming freshmen who are enrolled in a STEM major or have expressed interest in STEM fields. The program is open to all students. Low-income, first-generation college students, women, and racial/ethnic minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

While the program is free, there is a $100 deposit that is refunded after completing the program. STEM Academy is funded through an incentive from Berkshire Bank Foundation.

Download an application here. The deadline is July 1, 2013.

If you would like an application or have questions, please contact Dr. Chris Himes at 413.662.5222 or via email c.himes@mcla.edu
