Advising Services
Whether you are a first-year or transfer student, your first year at a new college presents endless opportunities and challenges. Responsibilities and expectations can sometimes be overwhelming to students. Advising Services at MCLA provides academic support for students as you navigate the transitions from orientation through graduation. Advising Services is primarily an academic resource center on campus. We approach advising as a collaborative process for assisting, educating, and empowering members of the campus community. In doing so, we can help you in making informed educational, career, and life decisions. The office provides information about college policies and procedures, enhancing the accessibility of information to current as well as prospective students. We also offer up-to-date information to students, faculty and staff on general advice, academic advising and other college services. In doing so, we are able to facilitate appropriate referrals for MCLA students. Advising Services offers assistance with: - general college information
- undeclared student advising
- core curriculum information
- general information about academic majors, minors and teacher licensure programs
- class registration
- schedule adjustments
- declaring or changing a major or minor
- general academic difficulties
- issues with academic probation and suspension appeals
- leaves of absence and withdrawals from MCLA
- off-campus study approval (for winter and summer courses)
- college policies and procedures
- graduation requirements
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit
- prior learning credit
- adult learner (non-traditional) student services
- non-matriculated student advising
- referrals to academic support services such as tutoring, writing assistance, non-traditional student programs, counseling, career services, and support services for students with learning disabilities
