IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT To access OneSearch, EBSCOhost, InfoTrac, Massachusetts Newsstand and LexisNexis Academic from off campus: Use your MCLANET login ID and password. This is the same information you use to log in to the college network and to your FirstClass account.
OneSearch allows members of the MCLA community to search multiple databases from different vendors at the same time. You can also find out if the full text of a journal is available in any of these databases, using Journals A-Z. For more information on OneSearch, click here.
We currently subscribe to 20 databases through EBSCOhost. Some include both indexing to articles in journals and the articles themselves (Academic Search Premier, PsycARTICLES, Communication and Mass Media), others include only indexing and a brief description (PsycInfo, ERIC. MLA International Bibliography). While Academic Search Premier indexes over 8,000 journals (and full text for over 4,500) in a wide range of subject areas, other EBSCO databases are limited to health, business or education. MCLA employees and students can access EBSCOhost on and off campus. Off campus access will require your MCLANET login information. |
|
African-American History Online American History Online American Women’s History Online Science Online
Off campus access will require your MCLANET login information. |
|
InfoTrac, like EBSCOhost, also indexes journals and provides some full text, although it covers fewer journals. Many journal are indexed in both groups of databases. InfoTrac includes a comprehensive biography database. Off campus access will require your MCLANET login information. |
|
ProQuest’s Massachusetts Newsstand includes the Boston Globe, the North Adams Transcript and the Berkshire Eagle. Off campus access will require your MCLANET login information. |
|
International, national and regional newspapers, including the New York Times (1980+), the Washington Post (1977+) and the Berkshire Eagle can be found through LexisNexis Academic. In addition, LexisNexis includes federal and state case law, regulations and articles from many legal journals, as well as business information, including company reports and SEC filings. For students and employees of MCLA only. Remote users will be prompted for their MCLANET login information. |

Government Documents
Many United States government agencies and departments make the documents they produce available over the Internet at no cost. If you have a particular document in mind, try a Google search, placing the title in quotes. If you want to find out what information an agency produces, locate their website through Federal Web Locator. If you have no idea what agency might produce the kind of information you’re looking for, call the Reference Department at 662-5325. Below are four examples of government sponsored databases available to the public. |
|
Agricola (AGRICulture OnLine Access) is a database of citations to agricultural literature created by the National Agriculture Library. Records cover many subjects related to the study of agriculture including animal sciences, entomology, plant sciences, aquaculture and earth and environmental sciences. |

PubMed and PubMed Central
PubMed, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine, provides detailed citations to professional literature in biomedicine and life sciences. It includes Medline, the index to journal citations in medicine. It also provides links to information useful to health consumers. PubMed Central provides indexing, and, in some cases, complete articles from life sciences journals. |
