"Transferring to MCLA was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. Being able to learn from and connect with the faculty and staff equipped me with greater networking capabilities/skills and the opportunity to use them outside of the institution, preparing me for the road ahead. Taking part and engaging in different clubs and organizations on campus helped to shape and guide me for countless opportunities."

Meet the Biology Faculty:
Harold G. Brotzman, (Professor Emeritus, Adjunct Professor)

Courses taught: Forest Environment.

  • B.S., State University of New York College of Forestry, 1964 (Forestry)
  • M.S., University of Maine, 1967(Botany and Plant Pathology)
  • Ph.D., University of Iowa, 1972 (Botany)
  • Post-doctorate University of Missouri (Plant Pathology)
Dr. Brotzman is associated most with the field of mycology.  His interests include the study of the life history and developmental processes of the ascomycetous fungi.  Particularly intriguing to him is the manner of reproduction and the structural adaptations that have evolved in the mating process during sexual reproduction.  Additionally, the ascomycetes provide a wealth of variation in conidial ontogeny and morphology.  It was with his colleague at the University of Missouri that a book was published detailing a spectrum of conidial development.  This work provides to the beginning student a series of scanning electron micrographs in stereoscopic format conveying the third dimension to the microscopic world of fungal morphogenesis.  His favorite pastimes include hiking, photography and travel.
