"Transferring to MCLA was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. Being able to learn from and connect with the faculty and staff equipped me with greater networking capabilities/skills and the opportunity to use them outside of the institution, preparing me for the road ahead. Taking part and engaging in different clubs and organizations on campus helped to shape and guide me for countless opportunities."

Message from Chair

Hi! I'm Dr. Nancy Ovitsky, and I'm Chair of the BADM/ECON Department here at MCLA. I'm glad you decided to pay us a visit today. Let me tell you a few things about our Department: We have 11 faculty members with a great deal of experience in both academia and the business world. And we have a great selection of in-demand programs to choose from!  Our General Business  program allows you to build a customized major that will meet your professional and personal goals. We also have a flexible Accounting concentration that will allow you to meet a variety of career goals.

We also have some great NEW programs this year, in Event and Sport Management , Management, and Marketing, and a joint Business Information Systems program offered jointly with our Computer Science department.  The Event Management track focuses on managing of events in all types of venues – business, non-profit, cultural, tourist, and sport.  This is a fast-growing area of specialty that allows us to utilize the unique qualities of cultural and tourist businesses in the Berkshires, bringing local experts into our classrooms and putting our students into internships with those organizations.  The Sport Management track was developed in response to student demand and faculty interest as well as the increasing visibility of various levels of sport in the Berkshires and the nation.  Our new Marketing and Management concentrations are more flexible than most programs in those areas, allowing students to gear their program to their own interests.

Nearby we have internationally known businesses and organizations - as well as successful local businesses - that provide our students with outstanding internship opportunities. Our institution's liberal arts mission means that our graduates have extensive work in developing communication and problem-solving skills, skills which are transferable to whatever professional or civic activity in which you may become involved in the 'real world.' We also have minor programs in Business Administration and in Economics for students with other majors who wish to have a base of knowledge and skills in business. We hope our website will provide you with the answers you are seeking; but if you have a question that hasn't been answered here, please contact me by email at novitsky@mcla.edu or voicemail (413 662-5306), fax (413 662-5173) or snailmail:
