"Transferring to MCLA was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. Being able to learn from and connect with the faculty and staff equipped me with greater networking capabilities/skills and the opportunity to use them outside of the institution, preparing me for the road ahead. Taking part and engaging in different clubs and organizations on campus helped to shape and guide me for countless opportunities."

English/Communications

English/Communications is an exciting, expanding field where you can look forward to almost limitless opportunities for exploring many fascinating intellectual avenues and varied career paths.

Perhaps you love reading and studying literature, or you enjoy the crafts of writing or publication design, maybe you are intrigued by the production of radio and TV, or you plan to enter a career in corporate communications, or you want to make movies, or you wish to teach literature to young, eager minds

The Department of English/Communications offers a four- year program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in English. The foundation of the program gives students a broad background in literature, language, and media. Beyond the foundation, students take additional courses in one of the following concentrations: Literature, Writing, Journalism, Broadcast Media, Public Relations, Film Studies, Dramatic Literature, and Corporate Communications. Finally, students complete their major with additional courses which best meet such career objectives as teaching, law, journalism, data processing, public relations, advertising, insurance, radio production, broadcast journalism, technical writing, consumer relations, editing, politics, and many more. Communication skills are crucial to all professions and your major also prepares your pursuit of careers in law, medicine, business and industry.

English/Communications at MCLA stresses the variety of hands-on experiences available to you. Students produce and staff the weekly campus newspaper, The Beacon, write for the department's annual literary magazine, Spires , produce programs for broadcasting on TV and radio outlets, and work on film projects using digital media.
