Hi. I'm Robert Bishoff, the chair of English/Communications. We have begun this term very well, and it continues to be a wonderful year. The number of majors continues to grow, and we have the largest number of majors we have had in several years. We are proud to say that the department has many opportunities for those new students.

Some items you should know about:

• In response to many inquiries from students and to faculty interest, the English/Communications department has augmented its concentration in film studies. If you have ideas or directions you wish to pursue in film studies, let the chairperson or the relevant faculty (Bishoff, Elder, Langston, Lambert, Samuels) know.
  
  
• INTERNSHIPS: It's not too soon for advanced students to start planning for internships for the summer and next year. We have on file in the department office a number of first-rate oppportunities for internships in editing, public relations, journalism, and desktop publishing. Discuss your ambitions and plans with your advisor, your classroom instructor, or with me. We are interested in finding an internship which matches your skills and interests and which will further your career preparation. So stop by....read the bulletin boards....and think about your next step.
