Extras at MCLA
A whole world of activities make up the Environmental Studies major at MCLA.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), in collaboration with Massachusetts Community Water Watch, and the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA),
hosted a North Adams community clean up on Saturday, April 29, 2006. These canoes belong to MCLA.
“I’m happy that the community is coming together like this to clean up,” said Amy Baum, clean up coordinator for Massachusetts Community Water Watch. She added, “With our combined efforts we’ll be able to make a real difference in Northern Berkshire County.”
Professor Hyers explains the only naturally formed white marble arch and man-made white marble dam in North America, during a field trip to nearby Natural Bridge State Park. The site was an active commercial quarry from 1810 to 1947, producing coarse-grained white marble used in local buildings and cemeteries.
The MCLA float passes through downtown North Adams, during the 51st Fall Foliage Parade.
This year's float celebrates Earth Day. Each Earth Day the campus hosts a festival celebrating ecology, the environment and the many ways we can make a positive contribution to living on a healthy planet.
This rainy Sunday drew a modest crowd to the Fall Foliage Parade. The sunny weather seen at last year's parade was missing, but not the enthusiasm of the crowds or judges.
Awards were presented as floats passed the grandstands on Main Street, in front of the Cup and Saucer. The theme of this year's parade was Holidays Around the Globe. MCLA's Celebrate Earth Day float was awarded "Best Theme" in the parade, by radio announcers.
MCLA's Robotic Arts Program was themed for the 50th Fall Foliage Parade, in 2005.
