"Transferring to MCLA was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. Being able to learn from and connect with the faculty and staff equipped me with greater networking capabilities/skills and the opportunity to use them outside of the institution, preparing me for the road ahead. Taking part and engaging in different clubs and organizations on campus helped to shape and guide me for countless opportunities."

Why Study and Make Art at MCLA instead of somewhere else?

Things students said:

.)    Great faculty who are excellent, professional artists.

.)    Because unlike many art programs, we actually teach technical skills that you can use.

.)    Small classes – usually 15 or less students per art course

.)    Because we’re not in a horrible, stinking, noisy big city. Here in the Berkshires you can actually breathe and think.

.)    Because there’s beautiful mountains, hiking, skiing, nature.

.)    Because MCLA is the sexiest school in the region.

.)    Presence of world-class museums such as MASS MoCA, the Clark, Williams College Museum of Art, etc.

.)    MCLA is affordable – less than a third to a quarter of the cost of most private art schools.

.)    Because we’re near big cities / easy trip to NYC, Boston, Montreal.

.)  Because there’s nothing to do at MCLA except make art!

.)  There’s a lot of artists in the Berkshires, and many need the help of good art students / apprenticeship or studio-assistant potential.

.)   Internships: MCLA’s “Berkshire Hills Internship Program” can provide real work experience in the arts, art museums.

.)   Gallery: MCLA’s “Gallery 51” provides many art exhibits that you can participate with and be a part of.

.)    MCLA is small enough that if you show leadership you can gain real experience / you don’t get drowned out in a sea of thousands and thousands of students like you do at a big university.

.)    It’s quiet at MCLA, so if you bring in da noiz, people hear you.

.)    You can double-major in arts management; get real business training to support your arts career.

.)    You can do art and other things - double-major or minor in other fields - connect art with other disciplines.
