Students begin with a shared foundation of core courses before choosing a major or minor which builds knowledge in an area of expertise. The department offers four year programs leading to either a Bachelor of Arts in History, or, new in Fall 2008, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Policy. Minor concentrations are available in Canadian Studies, Geography, History, Political Science and Public Policy, Public and Local History, and Women's Studies. Studying with our department provides you with the opportunity to formulate and research ideas, think critically, and express your thoughts in speech and in writing. This process prepares our majors for careers in a wide variety of fields. Many choose to teach, but others choose to enter fields such as public service, law, journalism, and business. Studying History, Political Science, or Geography at MCLA offers you the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of courses, work with dedicated faculty, learn in small classes, and pursue special experiences outside the classroom, such as travel courses and research conferences.
