Internet Modern History Sourcebook

            A wealth of primary sources from world history in the last five hundred years; also links to other sourcebooks in areas such as African history, Women’s history, East Asian history and more.

 

American Memory: Historical Collection from the National Digital Library Program

            Part of the Library of Congress, this site offers a a huge variety of documents and images dealing with American history

 

EuroDocs: European Primary Historical Documents

            This site offers a great deal of primary source documents categorized by both region/country and time period

 

United States Historical Census Data Browser

            Deals with the historical background of the US Census, as well as political and economic data from 1790 to 1960.

 

How to Use Primary Sources

            Part of the excellent “History Matters” web project at George Mason University, this page demonstrates how to analyze sources such as letters, songs, and cartoons.

 

Boston Public Library E-Cards

            Provides free access to anyone attending college in Massachusetts to some excellent databases for historical research, especially JSTOR, an invaluable source for journal articles.

3. Student Organizations 

The History Club is open to students from all majors and brings students with an interest in history together for discussions, films, and outings to area sites. For more information, contact the club's faculty advisor, Dr. Anthony Daly.

Phi Alpha Theta     The national history honors society, dedicated to promoting students’ interest and love of history. Qualifying students are invited to join the society at the department’s year-end banquet. MCLA’s chapter is named Alpha Beta Omega. For more information, contact the society's faculty advisor, Dr. Kailai Huang.

American Association for State and Local History

            The site offers information for those that are involved or wish to be involved in state and local history.

MCLA's Freel Library Local History web site

         The Hoosac Valley Collection for Local History at MCLA holds a wealth of material relating to the college and the area. Also includes an electronic newsletter.

North Adams Historical Society 

           The North Adams Historical Society offers information on the history of North Adams, photographs of North Adams, how to research one's genealogy, and additional information that deals with the society’s museum.

Berkshire County Historical Society

            Dedicated to collecting, preserving, and disseminating the history of Berkshire County, the society is located at Arrowhead, Herman Melville's Home in Pittsfield, which operates as a museum.
