Scholarships
Ellen Schiff/Anthony Nicastro Book Award: This award, instituted by Justyna Carlson, a recently retired MCLA Spanish Instructor, is given yearly to two students, one excelling in French and the other in Spanish or Italian. The award consists of a new dictionary in the language of study. Awardees also dine at a local restaurant with the Modern Language faculty at the expense of the department.  2008 Awardees were Natalie Tottenham for French and Anibelka Reyes for Spanish (above with Prof. Carlson)  2007 awardees were Alexandra Woolner for French and Jennifer Fiorile for Italian (above, with Prof. Carlson). 2006 awardees were Seth Kershner for Italian and Emma Stephens for French. Zavattaro Study-Abroad Scholarship: Instituted by Study Abroad Coordinator Sharron Zavattaro, this award is given yearly to one student that has been accepted for a study-abroad program. The amount of $500 is awarded after submission of a statement of purpose, which is reviewed by a faculty committee. This summer, Zavattaro Awardee Natalie Tottenham will be studying in Provence. Sandra Sheridan, who studied in France in the Fall semester of 2007, was the 2007-2008 awardee.
