Essay Contest



Nine Hills to Nambonkaha



As part of your preparation for college, we encourage everyone to write a brief essay on the summer reading, Nine Hills to Nambonkaha.

If you write a 750-word essay on one of the following questions, then please submit it to the Essay Contest. The winning essay (chosen by a faculty committee) will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to the MCLA bookstore.

Compose an essay that addresses one of the following issues:
  1. What made the greatest impression on you from reading this book? What questions do you have for Sarah Erdman?

  2. Have you participated in any community service or volunteer work? After reading this book, what reflections can you make regarding the importance of community work locally and globally?

  3. What has Sarah Erdman taught you about experiencing other cultures?
