Description
The Juvenile Resource Center (JRC) services students in middle and high school that are suspended for 3-9 days (Middle School & High School Suspension Program), students attend the JRC instead of being suspended at home. We have two full-time certified teachers, who tutor and assists suspended students with their class work from the public schools while they serve suspension. A student intern would assist the certified tutor's i working with students on their regular course work. Possibly, have their own small classroom with 5 students to work with on assignments from the public schools. Many students that attend the JRC have individualized Education Plans.
We also have a Truancy Intervention Program that works with the elementary and high school population. Truancy services mainly middle school, but also works with the elementary and high school population. Truancy workers assist families and the school with truant students through case management services. An intern would make house calls when possible with truancy officer and case manager, possibly work individually with a selected number of families and students, assist in tracking students regularly to ensure an improvement in attendance, make recommendations for other community services, assist with filing CHINS petitions with Berkshire Juvenile Court, and work with Berkshire Juvenile Probation Dept.
Required Skills
Student must have High School diploma; be able to pass CORI; experience with behaviorally challenging youth helpful, but not necessary; experience in educational setting helpful, but not necessary.
