Description
Assists the Lead Teacher in classroom management and curriculum planning as designated. Develops relationships with up to 16 children in the classroom, and to a lesser extent, with all children in the school. Interfaces with parents, Wellesley College faculty and students. Assists in the implementation of student research at the Child Study Center and at the Science Center. Is responsible for management of the classroom in the absence of Lead Teacher. Assists the Lead Teacher in supervision of student teachers, work study students and volunteers. Assists Lead Teacher in room arrangement and environment design. Participates in evaluation of classroom activities and children's behavior. Attends designated team, staff, intern, planning, clinical consultant, parent education and other ad hoc meetings, as well as workshops and seminars. Maintains journal of teaching and learning experience. Participates in parent conferences. Assists in writing conference and progress reports. Participates in annual set-up of classroom and inventory at close of school year. Reads assigned materials in Child Psychology and Early Childhood Education.

Schedule: 29 hours per week, 9 month position

Requirements:

Some college or equivalent general experience with young children. Knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Fluency in English language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must meet state licensing requirements for an Assistant Teacher. Physical capacity to care for young children. Must be able to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
