Northern Berkshire Adult Basic Education Program (ABE)
The Northern Berkshire Adult Basic Education Program has been based at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for over 30 years. In that time it has continuously helped many area adult learners achieve their academic goals. That is the continuing mission of the program. All classes are free and funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education; Adult and Community Learning Services.
Locations
Classes are held at several community locations.
In Adams, at the CT Plunkett Elementary School
In North Adams, at the Freel Library lower level on the Campus of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
In Williamstown, at the Milne Public Library (ESOL only)
Description of Classes
The program offers classes in Basic Skills, GED preparation, College and Career Readiness and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Students must be at least 16 years old and officially withdrawn from school. The academic year consists of 32 weeks of classes from September through May, though students can enroll at any time.
How to Enroll
Contact the Coordinator to schedule an enrollment meeting. At this meeting, the student completes the enrollment form, establish academic goals and takes a brief placement test. New students also attend an orientation meeting to learn more about the program and successful goal attainment.
