Bridge in PragueCourse Description
Travel to the heart of Europe to explore the rich culture and history of post-communist Czech Republic.  Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will offer an upper-level, credit-bearing travel course to the Czech Republic during Spring break in March 2011. While in the Czech Republic, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and society through visiting historical sites, museums, watching local movies and meeting local leaders.

Course Requirements
Prior to and after the trip, you will attend weekly meetings with Professor Petra Hejnova, the faculty leader on the trip.  During these meetings, you will discuss issues pertaining to Czech culture, history and society. You will keep a reading and movie journal as you complete class readings and watch assigned movies. Upon returning from Prague, you will be asked to hand in a writing journal and prepare a short presentation reflecting on your trip experiences.

Grading and Evaluation
You will be evaluated based on the following: class attendance, participation in discussions, reading journal entries, trip journal entries and a presentation reflecting on your experiences in the Czech Republic.

Guided tour of Prague (including Prague Castle and the Jewish Quarter)

Day trip to Kutna Hora (designated UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Day 5, Wednesday
Visit to the Czech Parliament
Movie night

Day 6, Thursday
Day trip to WWII Concentration Camp Theresienstadt

Day 7, Friday
Visit to the Museum of Communism
Meeting with a former political prisoner

Day 8, Saturday
Half-day trip to Karlstejn Castle

Day 9, Sunday
Arrival in Boston/North Adams

Trip Information
Approximate cost: $2,500 (subject to change)

Cost includes:
-Round trip airfare from Boston to Prague
-Transportation from airport to hotel in Prague
-7 overnight stays in hotels (triple or quadruple occupancy with private bathroom)
-7 European breakfasts and 1 dinner
-Transportation to three day trip destinations
-Guided sightseeing tours at several sites and admission to a number of attractions
-Walking tour of Prague
-Three upper-level credits for students enrolled at MCLA

If you plan to use Financial Aid dollars to fund this trip, please talk to your Financial Aid counselor as soon as possible.  You have to enroll by October 20, 2010.
