New garden supports MCLA green efforts
Recently, a group of students, faculty, and staff broke ground on a new campus vegetable and flower garden just south of Smith House next to Taconic Lawn. The garden serves as a visual reminder of the College's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Congratulations to:

  • Physics professor Emily Maher, who received a $33,286 grant from the Research Corporation's Cottrell College Science Award program to support her project, Measurements of Neutrino Cross Sections Using the MINERvA Detector.

  • Faculty Research Award recipients: English/Communications professor Mike Birch and Sociology professor Maynard Seider for their project, North Adams and Northern Berkshire Social and Economic Changes; physics professor Emily Maher for Measurements of Neutrino Cross Sections Using the MINERvA Detector; and computer science professor Bill Spezeski for Rethinking Pythagorean Triples.

  • Education professor Emily DeMoor, who received the Faculty Creative Project Award for her Garden-based education.

  • History professor Anthony Daly, who received the Faculty Curriculum Development Award for his proposed course on Terrorism.

  • Athletics department assistant Dawn Schrade, who was named the State Young Careerist by the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Massachusetts. She will represent the state in the Young Careerist competition at BPW/USA's National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer.

  • The student-athletes who were named to the All-MASCAC team: Taylor Kenyon, Ashley Morrison, Anthony Bruno, Cyrus Curtis, and Cory Burtman.

  • Basketball Coach Jamie Morrison who appeared on the May 5 episode of the documentary Nimrod Nation, airing on the Sundance Channel.
