MCLA Students Attend State House Day

NORTH ADAMS, MA - Approximately 150 students from campuses of the nine Massachusetts state college university system, including Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), canvassed the State House in Boston on Monday, April 25, asking state representatives and senators to add about $11 million into the university system's reserves.

MCLA students Tyeson Bell, Jaynelle Bellemore, Catt Chaput, Katie Collins, Esther Fan Fan, Rachel Kish, Kris McLaughlin, Stephanie Naffah and Hawa Umarova traveled to Beacon Hill to represent their fellow students and campus community.

The students were accompanied by MCLA Coordinator of Marketing and Communications Bernadette Lupo, Alumni Relations Coordinator Brandon Pender and Celia Norcross, director of student development.

At the State House, the MCLA students met with various legislators including State Rep. Thomas Conroy, State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry, State Rep. Paul Mark and State Rep. Smitty Pignatelli, who took them on a tour of the State House.

The students were also joined by members of the Legislature, including  Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, Senate President Therese Murray, Secretary of Education Paul Reville, Commissioner Richard Freeland, Sen. Michael Moore and State Rep. Thomas Sannicandro, co-chairs of the Joint Committee on Higher Education, as well as numerous state university system legislative alumni  in the Great Hall for a formal speaking program.
