MCLA to Offer 'Build Your Own Guitar' Course
NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has announced it will offer a summer course on professional guitar-making, June 2-27, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic Windsor Mill, 121 Union St. in North Adams.
This four-week workshop, which will be taught by Berkshire-based luthiers Steve Sauve of Sauve Guitars and Nick Lenski of Brier Road Guitars, is a hands-on course where students will build an acoustic guitar from start to finish using raw materials and applying professional methods and techniques.
The tuition for this course is $4,000, which includes materials. Students will have access to the high-quality tools necessary to build a guitar, along with step-by-step, hands-on instruction.
Sauve, a masther luthier, served an apprenticeship with luthier William Cumpiano in North Adams String Fellow Guitars, 1976-81. His business, Sauve Guitars, is an authorized C.F. Martin warranty repair center. He is a member of the Association of Stringed Instruments Artisans and the Guild of American Luthiers.
Lenski, a graduate of Leeds School of Lutherie and a member of the Association of Stringed Instruments Artisans, is a custom builder of guitars, mandolins and ukuleles.
