MCLA to Raise Flag Flown in Afghanistan by Alumna in Honor of Women's Soccer Team
NORTH ADAMS, MA - The women's soccer team at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) this weekend will officially raise an American flag that Sgt. Sarah LaPine '01 recently had flown over Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan as a gift to the Trailblazers.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m., at Shewcraft Field, during the women's soccer game against Worcester State. The event is free and open to the public.
A four-year member of the MCLA women's soccer program and 2001 graduate of the College, LaPine, of Stamford, Vt., serves with the 82nd Sustainment Brigade stationed in Afghanistan. The flag will fly at all women's soccer games this season to honor LaPine and her fellow soldiers who serve our country.
In addition, Sept. 18 will be designated at "Sgt. LaPine Day" at MCLA in honor of LaPine. According to Deborah Raber, head women's soccer coach at MCLA, this Saturday will be a very special day for LaPine, the women's soccer program and her family.
