CAMPUS NEWS

Grant Provides Support for Creative Economy Initiatives

We recently received news from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) that the College's Berkshire Cultural Resource Center (BCRC) grant was approved for the second year of funding through its John and Abigail Arts Program grant.

This $40,000 award will help to support a variety of BCRC projects, including MCLA Gallery 51, the Berkshire Hills Internship Program (B-HIP), the Tricks of the Trade lecture series, and other cultural initiatives that connect MCLA with the creative economy in the Berkshires.

Families Visit Campus over February Break

It's been a busy past few weeks for MCLA Admissions. The February school break brought a number of prospective students and their families to campus to visit MCLA, learn more about the College and meet faculty and students. Close to 300 families visited campus over the week and participated in a variety of programs including sessions on various majors, campus tours and a campus life resource fair. For more information on visiting campus go to Admissions.

MCLA Presents! Collaborates with Area Arts Organizations

In a collaborative effort with Stalwart Originality, MASS MoCA and the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance at Williams College, MCLA co-hosted a week-long residency with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company of Denver, Colorado, the last week in February. This professional dance company is an international, cross-cultural, dance-arts and educational institution rooted in African-American traditions, and dedicated to excellence in providing instruction, performances and community programs for intergenerational students, artists and audiences. Their Northern Berkshire residency included teaching master dance classes at MCLA and Williams, youth and adult workshops, and a performance for hundreds of local school children. Their stay culminated in an MCLA Presents! performance on Friday, February 27, in the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance at Williams College. Special thanks to Isabelle Holmes '08 who helped plan this residency as part of her job at Williams.
