MCLA Announces Documentary Filmaking Course

05/10/2013

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) and the Berkshire Film and Media Commission of Western Massachusetts have announced an introductory documentary filmmaking course taught by Richard Sands, a director of photography whose cinema production work includes work with directors such as Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola.

Sands has accomplished the lighting on 35 theatrical motion pictures with directors including Spielberg and Coppola. In addition, he has worked on 47 television movies, more than 100 one-hour television episodes and numerous advertisements.

"Documenting Social Awareness," will run May 20-31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students will create their own film, from concept through shootings, paper edit and final cut, with a final project to be screened on May 31.

In this class, participants will improve their understanding of camera, audio and editing techniques used in documentary filmmaking, and learn to visually tell a story that compels and effects an outcome.

Those interested in taking this class must have a working laptop with film editing software, preferably Final Cut Pro X, and a working camera with audio input.

To register for the course please contact MCLA's Office of the Registrar 413-662-5216.
