Northern Berkshire Adult Basic Education Program (ABE)
The Northern Berkshire Adult Basic Education Program has been based
at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for over 30 years. In that time
it has continuously helped many area adult learners achieve their
academic goals. That is the continuing mission of the program. All
classes are free and funded by the Massachusetts Department of
Elementary & Secondary Education; Adult and Community Learning
Classes are held at several community locations:
- CT Plunkett Elementary School, Adams
- MCLA, lower level, Freel Library
- Milne Public Library (ESOL only), Williamstown
Description of Classes
The program offers classes in Basic Skills, GED preparation, College and Career Readiness and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Students must be at least 16 years old and officially withdrawn from school. The academic year consists of 32 weeks of classes from September through May, though students can enroll at any time.
How to Enroll
Contact the Coordinator to schedule an enrollment meeting. At this meeting, the student completes the enrollment form, establish academic goals and takes a brief placement test. New students also attend an orientation meeting to learn more about the program and successful goal attainment.
