Adams Bank to Exhibit 'Regarding Nature' by Janet Picard

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - A new exhibition will open at the Adams Community Bank Gallery in conjunction with the DownStreet Art Thursday arts festival this Thursday, Aug. 29. The exhibition, "Regarding Nature," features the paintings of artist, Janet Picard, will open with a reception at 5 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Picard is an artist who lives in Brattleboro, Vt.  Her oil paintings are inspired by the Vermont landscape, the dunes of Cape Cod, her fascination with color, and the act of painting in itself. Merging actual places with imagined visions, she intends to transport viewers into a fantastical world that is pulsating with energy and mystery.

"In this body of work, I aim to capture the essence of fleeting moments in time within nature. Energy, movement, light, and the elegant, and organic way patterns emerge within an environment inspire these works," Picard said.

"My objective is to create an atmosphere or sense of place where the viewer will feel a visceral connection to nature within an environment that speaks of mysticism and spirituality. In this way of looking at nature, I am challenging myself from the traditional way of seeing and composing landscapes. My aspiration is to redefine landscape painting in its traditional sense and concentrate on the spirit and soul that is felt from within ones connection with nature."

Picard studied at the Art Institute of Boston, Union Institute and University and also in the Normandy region of France. Born in Taunton, Mass., she has exhibited her work throughout New England in numerous solo and group shows. Her murals and public art installations are widely commissioned by hotels, restaurants, schools, and other public and private venues.

"Regarding Nature" will be shown in The Adams Community Bank Gallery, 31 Eagle St. The show will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The exhibition will close on Sept. 22.
