Global Dubstep Duo 'Barely Alive' Headlines 'Rock the Block 2.0'

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has announced its Fifth Annual Performing Arts Management (PAM) show, "Rock the Block 2.0," will take place on Sunday, May 4, from 2-8 p.m. on Main Street in downtown North Adams.

This event - a block party that aims to bring the community together for a day of music, food, fun and friendship - is free, but donations are welcomed.

Rock the Block 2.0 will feature a performance by Berkshire-based dubstep duo Barely Alive.  On the heels of the release of their internationally acclaimed EP, "Lost in the Internet," Willie Watkins and Matt Meier of Barely Alive will perform at 7 p.m. Barely Alive began producing music over a year ago in the Berkshires. Since then, the duo has gained global recognition in electronic dance music also known as EDM.

"Barely Alive knows how to party, and will have everyone jumping along to their infectious beats," said Kristina Alexander '16.

Part of this season's MCLA Presents! performance series, the block party also will feature performances by MCLA student clubs such as the Allegrettos, Dysfunk Crew, Harlequin; DJs such as DJ Elixir, DJ IAmSam, DJ Kyle Pike; and bands such as Rebel Alliance, BIGZ, Triple Toe, Declarations, Down County, and The Mast.

In addition, the event will include flash mobs, carnival activities, Zumba, poetry, musical chairs, local restaurants, community organizations, as well as local vendors such as The Parlor, I Got Goodies, Christo, Desperados, and many more.

Hannah Sterrs '14 said, "The Mast's single 'Up Up Up' off of their recent album 'Pleasure Island' is addicting, and I haven't stopped listening to them since I first heard it.

"'Triple Toe' is a group of friends coming together to play the music they love. You can tell every person in the band has a genuine love for music and performing: it's reflected in their stage presence," Steers continued. "The enthusiasm in all of these groups is infectious. It's impossible to stand still while these performers are playing."

Rock the Block 2.0 is presented and produced by MCLA's "Advanced Performing Arts Management" class. For additional information and a complete listing of the MCLA Presents! season, go to presents or call 413-664-8718.
