Dr. Paul Donovan to Join MCLA Health Services


NORTH ADAMS, MA - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has announced that Dr. Paul J. Donovan, medical director of Northern Berkshire Sports Medicine, Inc. will join the MCLA Health Services medical team as the College Physician this fall.

Donovan will provide physician's clinics for MCLA students and associated medical services follow up at the Hoosac Bank Wellness Center.

This position expands Donovan's role at MCLA as the athletics team physician, which he has held since 2009. Donovan also is MCLA's Athletic Training Educational Program medical director. 

Donovan brings broad training, research and expert practice to this new position. Since 1998, he has held a position at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He also is a teaching associate in the Pre-Medical Department at Williams College. 

He holds board certifications in emergency medicine, advanced qualifications in sports medicine, and is a fellow of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Donovan earned his DO degree in osteopathic medicine from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residence in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.   

Donovan has a private practice at the Ambulatory Care Center on the North Adams Regional Hospital Campus.  

Donovan will assume this expanded medical role following the retirement of the college physician, Dr. Thomas Hyde. With his expertise in critical care, as well as in orthopedic and sports medicine, Donovan will contribute to the day-to-day medical needs of MCLA students, joining the existing medical staff team directed by Jody Tierney NP; Rachael Picone, NP; Jacqueline A. Krzanik, NP; and Sandra Meranti, LPN.
