Campus Crime and Safety Alert Update

The MCLA Department of Public Safety – Campus Police has received updated information from the Williamstown Police Department today regarding their reports of a suspicious person in the vicinity of Williamstown, MA. released Friday, April 4, 2008.

The Williamstown Police Department, with the assistance of the North Adams Police Department, conducted a number of lengthy interviews with all parties identified to them as having involvement with the reports.  They have concluded their investigation and determined no crime has been committed.

The Department of Public Safety – Campus Police would like to thank the community for their awareness and cooperation to the campus crime and safety alert and, once again, remind everyone that safety is all of our responsibility.  Please remain vigilant around your own personal safety and report any suspicious activity or people immediately by dialing 9-1-1 OR (413) 662-5100 in an emergency and (413) 662-5284 for non-emergencies, twenty-four hours a day, year-round.

The following information was provided to the MCLA Department of Public Safety – Campus Police by the Williamstown Police Department on Friday, April 4, 2008:

"April 3, 2008 – The Williamstown Police Department would like to advise the residents of a suspicious person report.

On April 1, 2008 at approximately 8:00 pm, a female was walking on Walden Street (Williamstown, MA.) when she was approached by a male driving an unknown make/model white vehicle. The suspect male originally asked for directions then continually asked the female if she wanted a ride and also offered her money. The female repeatedly refused and was able to walk to her residence without any further incident.

The subject is described as a Hispanic male between 20-30 years of age, clean shaven with black hair and speaks with a heavy Hispanic accent. The vehicle is described as a white coupe, possibly a Dodge Neon or Honda Civic type vehicle, with an unknown Massachusetts registration.

The Williamstown Police Department would like to remind everyone to always be vigilant of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to their Police Department immediately.
