Summer 2008 Leadership Academy Housing InformationFirst Things First! Let's Get You Assigned to a Room.... This summer, the Leadership Academy will be housed in Hoosac Hall and the Flagg Townhouse Apartment Complex. (Berkshire Towers is closed during the summer of 2008 to accommodate a very special building project.) The cost of the Leadership Academy is housing assignment-based. A double in Hoosac Hall carries a $4600 program cost; a premium single in Hoosac Hall carries a $5000 program cost. In the Townhouses, a double room carries a $4800 program cost and a single room carries a $5200 program cost. During the first week in April, all Leadership Academy participants were sent an initial bill based on the lowest program cost, $4600. If, in the end, you are assigned to a room type that carries a higher program cost, you will receive an adjusted bill from the Bursar's office. Okay, so let's get going with the housing assignment process! Please print off your Housing Assignment Preference Form, complete it and return it no later than Wednesday, April 23rd to: RPS - MCLA, 375 Church Street, North Adams, MA 01247. Session I participants will receive specific assignment information (and an adjusted bill, if applicable) at the end of May. Session II participants will receive this information in mid-June. Here are the answers to some common questions Leadership Academy participants have about their housing: 1. How are assignments made? Assignments are made in the order that participants paid their deposit for the program. In other words, a person who paid their deposit in January will be housed before someone who paid their deposit in February. 2. May I choose where I live? The Housing Assignment Preference Form allows you to rank order your housing choices. We will, wherever possible, provide you with your first or second housing choice. Our ability to do this may be affected by space availability and the date that you paid your program deposit. If you do not get your first or second housing choice, you are welcome to place your name on a waiting list by contacting our office (reslife@mcla.edu or 413-662-5249). 3. I'm not familiar with Hoosac Hall and the Flagg Townhouses. Can you describe them for me? Hoosac Hall is a traditional corridor-style residence hall with 18 rooms, two lounges and three bathrooms per floor. Each room in Hoosac Hall comes equipped with a MicroFridge. This is a specially designed multi-appliance with both a refrigerator/freezer and microwave. Each room also has wall jacks for internet service, local telephone service and cable TV service. On the main floor of Hoosac, you will find three lounges, a pool table, TV, vending machines, a laundry room and a recycling area. The Flagg Townhouses are garden-style apartments with 3 - 4 bedrooms and a shared common area space and bathrooms. Small kitchens are equipped with a stove and refrigerator (no microwaves). Townhouses are not equipped with coffee makers, dishes or utensils. If desired, you will need to bring them from home. Each room also has wall jacks for internet service, local telephone service and cable TV service. A laundry room is located within walking distance from the apartments where Leadership Academy participants will stay. Take a look at where Hoosac Hall and the Townhouses are located on a campus map. 4. May I choose my own roommate? The Housing Assignment Preference Form also allows you to provide us with the name of a preferred roommate. Again, we will do our best to provide you with your expressed roommate choice. To insure a match, please make sure that you and your roommate both write each other's names on your forms and that you both return your forms by the Wednesday, April 23rd deadline. 5. If I want to live in an apartment, may I choose ALL my housemates? While we guarantee roommate matches, it is not always possible for us to guarantee housemates. 6. I want to live in a double room, but I do not have a roommate in mind. What should I do? If you rank a double room as your preferred choice and do not provide a roommate choice, we will randomly assign you a roommate. 7. I have medical issue that requires special accommodations. What should I do? Please print a copy of the Special Housing Accommodations Process form. This form has a section that must be completed by you and a section that must be completed by your doctor. Please make sure that you return this form with your Housing Assignment Preference Form by the Wednesday, April 23rd deadline. Once we receive your completed form, your request will be evaluated by the appropriate office on campus (e.g. medical requests will be reviewed by our Health Services office) and we will let you know whether or not your accommodation request has been approved. 8. What else should I know about living on campus during the Leadership Academy? Well.....There's a lot more to know and we've got a handy, dandy guide that we will make available to you when we provide you your specific assignment. This publication will contain everything from check-in/check-out information to a packing list. In the meantime, if you have any housing questions feel free to contact the Residential Programs & Services office at reslife@mcla.edu or by calling 413-662-5249.
