General Residence Area Room Information

Each student is provided with a bed & mattress; desk & chair; bookcase or bookshelf; dresser and closet. The floors are vinyl tile and the windows have shades and curtain rods. Every student room has local telephone service (including voice mail and call-waiting), cable TV service (featuring access to over 70 channels) and individual computer connectivity to the Internet and College e-mail system. The cost of these services is provided for through the Technology Fee that each on-campus resident is assessed on their student bill.  Long distance service is accessible via a calling card, cell phone or through establishing a private account with the College's long distance service - Paetec.

All Berkshire Towers and Hoosac Hall rooms come with a complimentary MicroFridge. A MicroFridge is a combination refrigerator/freezer and microwave that is designed to limit energy consumption.

The College also partners with a number of vendors to offer students a variety of enhancements for their rooms. The products that these vendors sell include:

Room Safe Rental: In Hoosac Hall you have the option of renting a room safe that is large enough to store a laptop computer. The safes are located in the closets in each room.
Rackraisers: In Berkshire Towers and Hoosac Hall, students have the option of purchasing Rackraisers, a set of unique bed leg extenders that allow you to loft your bed (20" or 25") and create additional storage space.
Extra-Long Linens: All beds on campus are extra-long and require extra-long linens. This company sells linens, comforters, pillows and other room necessities at reasonable prices.

Before you make any purchases or start the packing process, please read From Dorm Room to Your Home Away From Home - A Packing & Decorating Guide for MCLA Resident Students which contains a detailed packing list and lots of important information about how to decorate and personalize your room (including window and floor measurements).

RPS Live-in Staff.....They're Always There to Help You!

Each of our residence areas is staffed by a full-time, live-in Residence Director (R.D.) and a team of Resident Advisors (R.A.s).  The Residence Director is responsible for the overall management of the residence area including counseling, programming and administrative duties.  Resident Advisors are full‑time students who have successfully completed an intensive selection and training process. Every other floor in Berkshire Towers and every floor in Hoosac Hall is staffed by a Resident Advisor. In the Townhouses, each Resident Advisor is responsible for twelve apartments. At the start of the year, R.A.s help residents get to know each other, forming the basis of a community of friends. R.A.s are also available to help plan activities, answer questions and make referrals.  The residence areas are also staffed by janitorial & maintenance workers and front desk staff.   If you are having a problem of any kind (roommate, adjustment, emotional or academic), please see a member of the Residential Programs & Services (RPS) staff. If our staff cannot provide you with the help you need, they will help you find someone who can. We have a very strong support network within the on-campus residence community. Please do not hesitate to use it!
