About the Sam Gomez Classic Road Race
The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' Student Government Association benefit road race was first organized in 1978. The hope of race organizers was to create an event to benefit charitable organizations in the Northern Berkshire area that would be continued for years to come. In 1986, the Annual SGA Road Race changed it's name to the "Sam Gomez Classic", named after the then, North Adams State College X-Country coach and avid runner, Dr. Samuel Gomez.
Dr. Gomez was instrumental in promoting the race to bring in runners from all areas. The Student Government Association is proud to say that the "Sam Gomez Classic" road race continues to prove hopeful and successful in serving its beneficiaries.
