Students in our English/Communications program hone their journalism skills by producing a weekly newspaper, The Beacon. You can read The Beacon Online.
WJJW is a student-run, non-commercial, educational FM radio station at MCLA. WJJW operates at 91.1 FM at a power output of up to 500 watts, enabling the station to serve the MCLA community and Northern Berkshire area with the best in educational programming, progressive, contemporary and classic music, and national and local news and sports. Music offerings run the gamut from classical to classic rock, and pop to punk.
The staff of WJJW is primarily volunteers, and also includes deejays from the surrounding communities, some of whom have produced shows for a decade or more. The English/Commmunications Department offers two courses related to WJJW: Radio Production and Radio Practicum. All students involved in WJJW obtain valuable broadcasting experience and multimedia skills while serving the College and local communities.
All students are welcome to join WJJW. The station is always open to new programming ideas. Have you ever wanted to join a TV production team? Students at MCLA get involved on many levels. Our programs which you might wish to help produce include: topical shows, sports talk, news, special events, sports events, holiday specials, local commercials and more! Crew positions include: director, camera operator, c.g. operator, audio, floor manager, technical director, on-camera-talent, vcr operator, assistant director or stage hand.
