Students in our English/Communications program hone their journalism skills by producing a weekly newspaper, The Beacon. You can read The Beacon Online and listen to expanded stories via their podcasts.
Radio
WJJW is a student-run, non-commercial, educational FM radio station at Massachusetts College. WJJW operates at 91.1 on the FM dial at a power output of 423 watts, which enables the station to serve the Northern Berkshire area as well as the Massachusetts College community with the best in educational programming, progressive and contemporary music, national and local news and sports.
The staff and management of WJJW consists of interested students who receive no money for their work; their dedication comes from sincere interest in obtaining valuable broadcasting experience and serving the college and local community.
Activities of WJJW include an FCC third class radio/telephone license course (offered both semesters), live remotes throughout the campus, broadcasting athletic events, specials such as album hours and trivia contests as well as special programs with the latest in jazz and reggae music. Have you ever wanted to join a TV production team? Students at MCLA get involved on many levels. Our Programs which you might wish to help produce include: Topical shows, Sports talk, News, Special events, Sports events, Holiday Specials, Local Commercials and more! Crew positions include: director, camera operator, c.g. operator, audio, floor manager, technical director, on-camera-talent, vcr operator, asst. director or stage hand. We invite you to get involved!!
