BMC and MCLA Collaborate on Care Center in Northern Berkshire
NORTH ADAMS, MA - Berkshire Medical Center is establishing a Walk-In Care Center for residents of Northern Berkshire, providing general non-emergent healthcare services in space provided by the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. The BMC Walk-In Care Center will be located inside the MCLA MountainOne Wellness Center, on the MCLA campus.
The Walk-In Care Center will be open seven days a week from 10 am to 10 pm daily, with care provided by BMC Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses, and will be available for any adult aged 18 and older, living in North Berkshire or visiting, and needing non-emergent care. The MCLA Wellness Center will continue to serve students, faculty and staff of MCLA. The new Walk-In Care Center will open on Wednesday, April 30th at 5 pm and will remain operational at least until the opening of the BMC Satellite Emergency Facility at the former North Adams Regional Hospital, scheduled for mid-May.
"This partnership is part of Berkshire Medical Center's ongoing commitment to providing health services for those in need in Northern Berkshire," said David Phelps, President and CEO of Berkshire Health Systems. "I am thankful for the leadership and support from Governor Patrick, our Berkshire state lawmakers, MCLA President Mary Grant and Mayor Richard Alcombright in helping BMC to provide this key service in Northern Berkshire."
The BMC Walk-In Care Center will provide assessment and treatment of common illnesses and minor injuries, including infections, minor wounds, abrasions, joint sprains, skin conditions and other minor conditions. The Walk-In Center will accept all commercial insurance plans, MassHealth and Medicare.
BMC is also in the process of establishing a Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF) at the former North Adams Regional Hospital, which when opened will provide care for all critical and non-critical emergent care needs. In the meantime, Northern Berkshire residents and visitors in need of emergency care should call 9-1-1 or visit the Emergency Department at Berkshire Medical Center.
