MCLA offers teacher licensure programs at the undergraduate and graduate level in Early Childhood (PreK-2), Elementary (1-6), Middle School (5-8) and Secondary (8-12). Licensure at the middle school level includes: biology, English, general science, history, humanities, mathematics, mathematics/science, physics, and political science/political philosophy. Licensure at the secondary level includes: biology, business, English, history, mathematics, physics, and political science/political philosophy.

In order to obtain an Early Childhood or Elementary teaching license in Massachusetts through MCLA, students at the undergraduate level must complete a major in the arts and sciences and a major in Education. Middle School and Secondary licensure candidates must major in the content area for the license and complete a major in Education. In addition, all students must have a GPA of 2.8, no grade below a C in licensure program courses and pass all MTEL requirements in order to be accepted for the professional semester (student teaching).

All licensure candidates will complete a minimum of 120 hours of work in a classroom appropriate to the license prior to student teaching.

Licensure candidates at the graduate level must have a bachelor's degree with a 3.00 GPA. Prospective candidates with a GPA below 3.00 may be conditionally accepted. Bachelor's degree transcripts of all graduate candidates will be reviewed for content as it would relate to the license to be obtained. Graduate students may add four "core" courses (EDUC 717 Curriculum Theory and Democratic Practice; EDUC 719 Multicultural Education; EDUC 783 Philosophies & Methodologies of Inquiry; and EDUC 784 Inquiry Seminar) to any licensure program to earn a Master's in Education degree.
