Film Studies 

Making movies allows us to combine every artistic and technical proficiency we can command, and consequently the art of film has attracted some the best creative talents of the twentieth and twentyfirst centuries.

For over two decades, MCLA has made the study of film an integral part of the English/Communications major wiith a concentration in film studies that is structured by the following courses:

  • Foundation Courses 24 credits

  • Department Electives 6 credits

  • Concentration Courses 18 credits
    • ENGL 210 Essentials of Film 3 credits
    • ENGL 315 Constructing the Short Film 3 credits
    • ENGL 397 Special Topics in Film 3 credits
    • ENGL 412 Filmmakers and Filmmaking 3 credits

    • Plus two film electives at the 200-level or above
      Choose electives from the following list:
    • ENGL 375 The Civil War in Literature & Film
    • ENGL 397 Special Topics in Film (By Subject)
    • ENGL 412 Filmmakers and Filmmaking (By Subject)
    • ENGL 481 From Semiotics to Significations (If not used as Foundations course)
    • ENGL 500 Directed Independent Study
    • ENGL 540 Internship
