Professor
Tony Gengarelly is an accomplished teacher and scholar, earning master's
degrees from Yale and Williams College, and a doctorate from Boston
University. He has curated art exhibits and published books and essays
focusing on the Prendergasts, American landscape painting, the image of
women in the 19th century, the works of Winslow Homer, nineteenth
century neoclassical sculpture, civil rights, and Navajo art. Dr.
Gengarelly teaches a wide array of art history and museum studies
courses, bringing both business savy and erudition to MCLA. He and his
students completed a book of the art of autistic artist Jessica Park
and the book Exploring Nirvana: The Art of Jessica Park was published during the spring of 2008. The book and Jessica's paintings were exhibited at Gallery 51
the College's art gallery located in downtown North Adams. Professor Gengarelly is currently working on a new book about Jessica and her art with the anticipated publication date Fall 2012.
