About Me
One of my central interests in sociology is the study of social class.  In my Social Stratification class I have the students write their "Educational Autobiography" so they can better understand the role that class has played in their own development.  I have also been engaged in research on social class and higher education over the past decade which has resulted in several publications and conference presentations.

Because of my strong belief that the topic of "class" needs to be discussed more and more so that we can help to bring about a more equitable society, I have joined the Board of Class Action (www.classism.org), a national organization based in Hadley whose goal, through trainings, writings and presentations, is to fight against classism.

Another strong interest of mine is to study the "Social History of North Adams."  Towards that end I have taught a course by that name for many years and was the project manager for a local history play, "The Sprague Years," performed at the college in 1995.  Currently I am working on producing a documentary film on the changes in North Adams since the decline of manufacturing and the birth of Mass MoCA.

"Social Change in Latin America" is the title of the most recent course I have developed.  I have visited a number of countries in this region, and led a travel course to Cuba during the 2003-4 academic year.  Recent changes in this region have been dramatic and I find the study and teaching of this subject to be most refreshing and exciting.
