College Facilities And Services
The following is an abbreviated list of facilities and services that will be helpful to you personally or in your work with students. Many offices on campus publish more detailed information about services on the MCLA web site (www.mcla.edu).
The services of the College Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Amsler Campus Center (Room No. 106), are available to all employees. For personal purchases, just show your MCLA ID card and receive a 10 percent discount on books, supplies and clothing. Questions regarding Bookstore policies and procedures may be directed by calling the Bookstore at (413) 662-5240 or visiting their web site (www.bkstr.com).
Copy Center/Mailroom/Shipping and Receiving
Both the Copy Center and the Mailroom are located within the same office space on the second level of Venable Hall and can be reached at extension 5450. Large volume, in-house duplication is available at the Copy Center for College business and stamps may be purchased from a U.S. Postal Stamp Machine located outside the Mailroom. Each department has copiers to perform small volume duplication for College business. Office supply distribution and inventory control are managed through the Office of Shipping and Receiving located in the Brewer Perkins Building, Ashland Street, extension 5562. Counseling Services, located on the second floor of the Hoosac Bank Wellness Center provides counseling services for students and consultation with employees about student problems. They are a valuable resource to employees who have concerns about a student's well-being or behavior. Counseling Services is in full compliance with applicable regulations and state laws concerning confidentiality and privacy. See web page for policy and details or call extension 5331.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is committed to serving both its own community and the greater Berkshire County area as a cultural center. To this end, a concert and event series brings diverse performances to the College, ranging from gospel to blues to Broadway. MCLA's Gallery 51 is an art gallery occupying a storefront on Main Street in North Adams where local artists, MCLA faculty and students exhibit their art works. In addition, the College's Fine and Performing Arts Department sponsors a myriad of cultural events on campus, including plays, concerts and art exhibits. Check your e-mail, bulletin boards and calendar on the College web site to acquaint yourself with what is offered.
The MCLA Facilities Department is responsible for providing the daily operational support needed for a safe, clean, suitable working and learning environment. The Facilities Department can be reached Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at extension 5099. Any facilities-related emergencies that arise before or after the hours of operation should be directed to Public Safety at extension 5284.
Facilities Maintenance Request forms are available on the campus website (click on Forms and Policies). Key requests are made by calling Public Safety at extension 5284. Once a verbal request is made, a written Work Order is prepared by the Public Safety Department secretary for approval by the Director of Public Safety. Once approved, the Work Order is sent to the Department of Facilities for processing.
All employees are encouraged to attend student intercollegiate sporting events that include men's and women's soccer and basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, cross country and golf. MCLA is a Division III NCAA college.
Fitness Center and Pool
The Fitness Center, located on the second floor of the Amsler Campus Center, is a fully staffed facility designed to promote a healthier lifestyle. The Center is open and available to all members of our College community, including students, staff, administrators and faculty. The Center provides a full complement of aerobic physical fitness enhancers, strength training circuit and free weights.
Also located in the Amsler Campus Center, at ground level, is the swimming pool, which is open and available to all members of our College community, including students, staff, administrators and faculty. The swimming pool is staffed by certified lifeguards and offers a daily schedule of free swim time during the academic year.

The College dining facilities are located in the Centennial Room on the first floor of the Campus Center. A small café is located in the lower level of Bowman Hall. In addition, the food services vendor on campus (ARAMARK) provides catering services for group functions upon request, as well as take-out orders. The Student Health Services Office, located on the first floor of the Hoosac Bank Wellness Center, does not extend its regular services to College employees, but emergency services are available. On occasion, flu shots are provided for employees. This office also provides consultation on health-related issues of concern. For information call extension 5421.
Information Technology (Computer Support Services)
The mission of the Department of Computer Support Services is to help MCLA faculty, staff, and students fulfill their academic, services, and support goals, and to enforce appropriate use of information technology and telecommunications services.
To use any of the technology services at MCLA, each employee is required to have an MCLA Net account.
MCLA Net accounts give access to all on-line services. Employees who have not already set up their accounts are required to do so by following the complete step-by-step guide on getting started with technology at MCLA. The guide is located at: http://techhelp.mcla.edu/employeegetstarted.
The Department of Computer Support Services encourages all of the users of information technology to visit their helpdesk web site located at http://techhelp.mcla.edu. The Computer Support Services Department is located on the lower level of Murdock Hall, and can be reached by calling extension 5276 in order to receive technology assistance. For walk-up assistance, the Computer Help Desk is located in the same building on the first level of Murdock across from the computer labs.
The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Freel Library is your gateway to global knowledge. Become familiar with their web site (www.mcla.edu/library) and check it regularly. The Library building is open 80+ hours per week, including nights and weekend hours. Main number: extension 5321.
General help is available at the Circulation Desk at extension 5321. The Library is happy to provide personal assistance with research. Check with the Reference Desk at extension 5325.
Freel Library acquires books and other printed materials, and subscribes to a number of electronic resources, including online serials and databases containing full text, scholarly articles. The Library's homepage provides access to electronic resources, to the Massachusetts virtual online catalog (listings of books, videos and other educational materials owned by MCLA and area libraries); and to academically-oriented Internet sites. Many of the Library's resources are available remotely to those with a current, valid ID. Please see one of the Librarians for information.
The Library belongs to a local and regional consortium CWMARS (Central/Western Massachusetts Resource Sharing) to facilitate resource sharing for its Library users. MCLA faculty may borrow books from the Williams College Library on their MCLA ID. Resources of UMASS/Amherst Library also are available. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) handles requests for material not owned by the
MCLA Library and also loans our resources to other libraries all over the country. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests may be made at the Reference Desk. Information may also be obtained at extension 5325.
Located on the first floor of Murdock Hall, Media Services Center provides technical support and setups of instructional technology and audio visual equipment campus wide. They schedule and deliver classroom AV equipment and are responsible for sound reinforcement and other media activities at academic, student and administrative functions. Media Services also coordinates activities related to satellite and Poly-Com video conference systems, and off-air television recording and maintains the faculty conference Development Lab (digital imaging, digital video editing, CD production and interactive software development).
Lost and Found
The College maintains a Lost and Found service. For valuables such as wallets and purses, employees should check with the Public Safety Department.
Mass Buying Power
(Consumer Referral Service) Mass Buying Power is a consumer referral service that is available free of charge to all employees. It is not available to students or to departments for institutional purchases handled on purchase orders.
Mass Buying Power has agreements with vendors, dealers and stores throughout the Commonwealth that provide our employees with substantial discounts for new cars, trucks, travel, household appliances, furniture, tires, boats, computers, sound equipment, window treatments, carpets, replacement doors and windows, home mortgages and more.
Use of Mass Buying Power services is at the discretion of each employee and no guarantee of volume has been made. Purchases are the sole responsibility of the individual. A referral discount certificate will be issued to the individual employee. This procedure must be followed in order to obtain the Mass Buying Power discount. No discount will occur if an individual contacts a dealer without the proper certificate.

Meeting/Conference rooms are available throughout campus for College meetings. To reserve a room, contact the Student Development Office at extension 5120 or complete an Event Scheduling Form from the web site.
The Department of Administration and Finance, located in the Shapiro House on Corinth Street, extension 5245, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all College procurement and bid requests. Purchase Requisitions are available on the campus website (click on Forms and Policies). Purchase Orders are processed by the Department of Administration and Finance. Receipt, delivery and merchandise return are handled by the Office of Shipping and Receiving located in Brewer Perkins, Ashland Street, extension 5562.
You are encouraged to purchase through one of the buying groups available to the College as a part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (Department of Procurement and General Services, Massachusetts Higher Education Consortium, or the Educational and Institutional Cooperative). These buying groups save money by getting the best possible discounts and save time and money by not going out to bid.
Purchases of goods or services cannot be made with College funds without first obtaining a valid purchase order number from the Department of Administration and Finance.
