Vacation Leave

Unit and Non-Unit classified personnel and professional employees (excluding Faculty members) begin to accrue vacation leave with the first pay period of employment. The following are the accrual rates for each employee category.

AFSCME and Non-Unit Classified Employees
Full-time, benefited AFSCME and Non-Unit Classified employees working a 37.5 hour work week:

Part-time employees receive prorated vacation accruals based on FTE.   AFSCME and Non-Unit Classified employees may carry up to 480 hours (64 days) of vacation leave from one pay period to the next. Vacation leave in excess of this limit will be converted to sick leave twice a year (April and October).

Full-time, benefited AFSCME and Non-Unit Classified employees working a 40 hour work week:

All members of the bargaining unit who are employed to work a 12 month work year shall be entitled, during each such year, to an annual vacation leave.

Procedure for Requesting Vacation Leave: 

Employees should request vacation leave as much in advance as possible and according to the requirements of the applicable collective bargaining agreement or non-unit guidelines. This will enable supervisors to plan appropriate coverage during employees' absences. Unit employees should also refer to their collective bargaining agreements for other procedural requirements.

HOLIDAYS

The College observes the following legal holidays as paid holidays for benefited employees:

  •    Evacuation Day (Floating)*(NUP/NUC only)
  •    Patriot's Day
  •    Memorial Day
  •    Bunker Hill Day (Floating)*(NUP/NUC only)
  •    Independence Day
  •    Labor Day
  •    Columbus Day
  •    Veteran's Day
  •    Thanksgiving Day
  •    Christmas Day

*The two floating holidays may be used on the day of the holiday or on a day up to 120 calendar days after the holiday with the prior approval of the employee's supervisor.  Floating holidays not used within 120 days are forfeited.


OTHER PAID LEAVES:

Bereavement Leave

When the death of a member of an employee's immediate family occurs, the employee is entitled to paid Bereavement Leave. The specific number of paid bereavement days available and other details are as follows for each employee group:

Administrators (APA):  Seven days for the death of a spouse, domestic partner, child, step-child.  Four days parent, step-parent, brother, step-brother, sister, step-sister, grandparent, grandchild, or parent of a spouse or person living in the immediate household of either the administrator or of his domestic partner or spouse.

Two days for the death of a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, or the spouse, brother, sister, grandparent, or grandchild, the brother or sister of his spouse or domestic partner.  Time is also granted to attend the funeral of a colleague.

Administrators (Non-Unit):  Four days will be granted in the event of the death of a family member.  The duration of the leave will depend on the relationship between the employee and his or her deceased family member, the distance to be traveled to attend the funeral and to deal with related family matters and like or special consideration.

Classified Staff (AFSCME and Non-Unit):  Seven days for the death of a spouse, child and step-child, to be used at the option of the employee within 30 days from date of death.  Four consecutive working days for a parent, step-parent, brother, step-brother, sister, step-sister, grandparent, grandchild or parent of a spouse or person residing in the immediate household.

Two days for death of an employee's son-in-law, daughter-in-law, spouse's brother, sister, grandparent or grandchild.

One day for death of an employee's aunt, uncle or cousin.
Faculty (Full-Time) and Librarians (MSCA):  Seven days for death of a spouse, domestic partner, child, step-child.  Four days for domestic partner's child, brother, sister, parent, parent of spouse or domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild or parent of a spouse or person living in the immediate household of either the faculty member or of his domestic partner or spouse.

Two days for death of a brother or sister of the spouse or domestic partner.

Three hours will be granted to attend the funeral of a colleague or former colleague.
