Leadership Academy
For Educational Administration

Our innovative Leadership Academy offers intensive study in educational administration and convenient, summer scheduling in the culturally rich and scenic Berkshires. This program allows education professionals to complete graduate credits in just over two weeks during the summer.

This opportunity is available to educators with a master's degree, a minimum of three years of K-12 experience and/or any school administrator who is seeking Educational Administrative Licensure. The Leadership Academy offers a top-notch program with expert faculty, engaging coursework, meaningful fieldwork and personal attention.

The graduate credits earned through this program are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), are accepted for licensure in Massachusetts and are transferrable to several nearby states. Many New York educators take advantage of this program, as do educators from other states. Course descriptions and more information are available on the Leadership Academy Web site: www.mcla.edu/leadership.

Some benefits of MCLA's leadership program include:

• Convenience to earn 12 graduate administrative credits in an accelerated fashion

• Access to top-notch faculty, an extraordinary mix of experts and personal attention

• Integration of the arts (including theater, visual arts, dance, music, literature and poetry) with the theory and practice of leadership in education

• A residential experience with a housing option offered in MCLA's suite-style residence hall

• Summer in the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts

• A great value at an affordable, all-inclusive cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board)

Greetings,

I am writing to update you on pre-Academy expectations.

First, as many of you are aware, we were trying to evolve our commitment to an on-line Academy format, at least at the pre-Academy stage. To this end the faculty and MCLA technology support staff envisioned on-line conversations and the submission of short responses through Canvas, our on-line learning platform. Last week, however, we concluded that the new format might create more problems than possibilities for students and faculty, and we decided to postpone our efforts.

Next year's academy experience will definitely include both an on-line component and less time on campus.

Second, because we are delaying the use of an on-line format until next year, we are refining our pre-Academy expectations. We are also aware that pre-Academy assignments could have been posted in a more a timely manner in the past. So, our expectation is that upon your arrival (1) all of the reading will have been completed, (2) notes on the reading have been prepared, and (3) that you will be ready to discuss and write about what you have read.

The changes I have outlined should not be interpreted as a lowering of expectations. In fact, we are expecting you to be able to refer to and discuss the ideas in the texts with even greater complexity when you arrive because the pre-writing component has been eliminated.

I would be glad to answer any of your questions.

Sincerely,

Dana Rapp

TESTIMONIAL

"MCLA's Leadership Academy was a program that altered my conceptions of what educational leadership is and can become. Thought-provoking readings and assignments, collaborating with fellow educators from around the country, and learning through the arts allowed for critical conversations and deep reflection.
Exploring national educational issues and applying solutions in our own local schools made the Leadership Academy a relevant and powerful experience. It has shaped and helped me grow as a leader to find solutions in an increasingly complex and changing world."
